Sunirmal Basu (সুনির্মল বসু)

 


Sunirmal Basu was an Indian Bengali poet and writer. He was a celebrated children's writer. 

He was born into a reputed Bengali family  on 20 July 1902 in Giridih, Bihar, British India. His ancestral home was in present-day Bangladesh. His grandfather, Girish Chandra Basu, was a journalist and writer. He joined Mahatma Gandhi's 'Non-cooperation movement' in 1921 and left his college studies. 

His books are 'Hawar Dola', 'Chanabara', 'Bere Moja', 'Hai Chai', 'Hulusthul', 'Kathashekha', 'Pattari', 'Chhander Tungtang', 'Ananda Naru', 'Shahure Mama', 'Kipte Thakurda, 'Tuntunir gaan', 'Gujaber janma', 'Veer Shikari', 'Lalon Fakirer Bhite', 'Patabahar', 'Intibintir Asar', 'Pahare Jungale', 'Chotader Galpa Sanchayan', 'Jibanta Kankal', 'Asambhab Duniyay', 'Hasi-Kanna', 'Dillika Laddu', 'Sunirmal Basur Shrestha Kobita', 'Adim-Dwipe', 'Kebal Hasir Deshe'.

He wrote an autobiography, Jibankhatar Kayek Pata, in 1955. He achieved the 'Bhubaneswari Padak' in 1956 for his contributions to Bengali literature. He died on 25 February 1957.

Prasenjit Dutta (born in 1981) is an Indian Bengali chess player and coach from Tripura. He is the founder of "Matrix Chess Academy".
